Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, although we are experiencing a strange year and can expect to deal with the COVID-19 related problems for some time, there are also lots of positive things to takehopefrom. One of them is the 10th year of the European games for the disabled youth – the Emil Open, taking place in our city. Reaching double figuresshows that this event has found a home in the sporting calendar of Brno and that it has been a nice tradition growing stronger each year.
Sport has always been a part of our life. Sport is not only about competing, but also about friendship, joy and belonging. Sport leads us to responsibility and strong will. Sport is a gift everyone can get. Therefore I would like to wish the 10th European Youth Games as many participants as possible and you, young disabled athletes, increased energy and zeal for sport.
After the coronavirus crisis, our republic has finally started to breathe freely, lives are returning to normal, our diaries are being filled not only with duties but also with leisure activities, traditional projects have a green light once again. The great news is that this year - despite various organizational complications - the Emil Open European Youth Games for the Disabled will take place, and even in the standard days.
Dear Friends, Every real sports performance is great in the sense that its main purpose is not to beat “others” but oneself.The same goes for all sportspeople - both the able bodied and those with physical limitations. Over 4000 young athletes under the age of 26 have participated in the games so far, which is evidence of their great enthusiasm and desire to show maximum performance but also meet people and forge new friendships.

European Youth Games for the Disabled are annually returning to the South Moravian Region and its metropolis, Brno. Disabled athletes, their will and enthusiasm are a huge inspiration for us all.
The city has been involved in supporting the European Youth Games for the Disabled already last year and I am glad that organizers have received subsidy of 1 million Czech crowns this year as well.

The city council of Brno-Centre approved a 100% discount on the rent of an indoor pool under the management of the Kraví hora Sport and Recreation Complex on 8 – 9 June 2017 for participants of the 6th European Youth Games for the Disabled EMIL OPEN.
This international sport, but mainly social meeting of young people with a disability has attained considerable popularity with both domestic and foreign competitors. These Games are an amazing crossover between two worlds where the will and enthusiasm of the athletes with a disability inspire us all.
