Ladies and gentleman,
Dear athletes,
I have to say that when the Olomouc region was offered the opportunity to support the European Youth Games for the Disabled Emil Open, I haven’t hesitated for a second. To support a good cause is a duty for each and every one of us. For me, the duty to support Emil Open is a very pleasant one.
Emil Open proves that the disabled can achieve the same results as the non-disabled in the sports arena and often even better. What’s more, these achievements make us think – are the obstacles we face in our daily lives really so severe and don’t they actually pale in comparison with obstacles the disabled face in general?
I’d like to wish to all athletes a great competition and to all the spectators an inspiring experience. Enjoy the event, the city of Brno and if you have time to spare, come visit the neighboring Olomouc region – we have a lot to offer and your trip will surely be worth it.
To close my opening remarks I’d like to thank the organizers, volunteers and everyone that helped to make this event happen. It is all the young athletes however, who deserve a special expression of gratitude, for motivating us and for showing us that when you don’t give up, there are no disabilities, only challenges to be overcome.
