During the four days of the Emil Open 2017, young disabled people enjoyed the Moravian metropolis not only on sports grounds but also as part of the accompanying program. A special tour of the city, a visit to the Brno Zoo or a steamboat cruise was prepared for those interested.
The sunny weather attracted many participants to visit the local zoo and cruise on the Brno dam. Part of the expeditions was attracted by the VIDA park, where almost 170 interactive components of a unique permanent exhibition could be tested on an area of nearly 5000 square meters. Some athletes went to Kraví hora where they visited the modern functionalist building of the Brno Observatory and Planetarium.
British disabled golf player Ashley Harris praised both the organizational conditions of Emil Open 2017 and the place where the Games took place.
"I am really excited from Brno. In the Czech Republic, I was for the first time last year at the World Youth Games for the Disabled in Prague, and in Brno, it is my premiere, but I'm already planning my time to come again this year, " said Harris, who is waiting for the European Youth Games Golf tournament in Prague right after Emil Open.
Not only foreign but also Czech handicapped participants were enthusiastic about the games and the venue.
"I'm in Brno for the first time and I like it very much. I'm glad I could take part in such a competition. I like to come back again," said swimmer Alžběta Suchá of Domažlice. Her friend, Pavlína Hromádková, agreed. "I really like to come back again."
The Saturday program ended by the closing ceremony at Boby Center, where special prizes and certificates were awarded to participants, volunteers and event partners.
